Writing Contest for Unpublished Works: How to enter Paper Entries

To submit your paper entry by mail, follow the instructions below.  Be sure to read and follow the guidelines provided on the contest form.  Failure to follow the guidelines exactly will disqualify your entry.

1.    Download the 2020 PNWA Writing Contest Form.  You can find it here.

2.    Complete the form.  You may enter separate works in different categories.  Only one entry per category allowed. If you are submitting work for more than one category, you will need to complete a form for each entry. All entries must be ORIGINAL and NOT previously accepted for publication or production by the contest deadline.

3.    Follow the submission guidelines on the contest form for your category. Be sure to read the entire submission guidelines and follow them exactly as entry requirements vary by category.

4.    Include THREE clean copies of your entry (each copy separated with a colored sheet of paper – NOT stapled).

5.   Self-addressed stamped envelopes are no longer required. The additional $2.00 processing fee covers the cost of the envelope and postage. 

6. Submission guidelines for hard copy entries in categories 1 - 8:

  • Synopsis: Maximum 1 page. Must be double-spaced. The synopsis page number must be listed with your manuscript entry. Synopsis begins on page one.
  • Maximum length: 27 pages. The 27 page limit includes your 1 page double-spaced synopsis and the first 26 pages of your book (beginning with chapter 1 or prologue). The entire entry must be double-spaced, in 12 point Times New Roman or Times (Mac).

7. Submission guidelines for hard copy entries in categories 9-11:

  • Maximum length is 14 pages. Standard manuscript format applies (i.e., double-spaced, 12 point Times New Roman or Times(Mac) font. hard copy entry.

8. Submission guidelines for category 12:

  • ONLINE ONLY Go to the Online Entry form for guidelines.

Your manuscript package should include:

  • A legible completed contest form with current phone number, address, and email address.
  • A check, money order or credit card number for the entrance fee ($37 for PNWA members; $52 for nonmember)
  • Three copies of your entry separated by colored paper
  • Mail OR drop off your entry at the appropriate address below by March 27th, 11:59 pm.
