2020 Winter Quarter Fiction Course: Write Your Story

This is an 8 week course focused on the first third of your novel. The middle third and last third of your novel are covered in subsequent courses. This course covers how to plot your novel, develop characters and choose the appropriate point of view for your story. Each class will contain a combination of lecture, writing exercises, and critique sessions. This class qualifies for continuing education hours (clock hours) per the Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB).

2020 WINTER QUARTER FICTION SERIES: write your story - $225 members/$325 nonmembers
Presented by PNWA’s President, Pam Binder. 

Pam Binder is an award-winning New York Times, USA Today and Amazon bestselling author. Drawn to Celtic legends and anything Irish or Scottish, Pam blends historical events, characters, and myths into her fiction novels. Pam is also the president and program director of the Pacific Northwest Writers Association.

 Beginning Tuesday, January 14th, 2020 (Eight week session) ending March 3rd, 2020

Pam Binder’s 8-week course will concentrate on how to develop your plot, the key scenes needed in the first third of your novel, the importance of a strong point of view, how to develop your characters, and write with emotion. Pam will also discuss how to write a synopsis and how to prepare your manuscript for entry into writing contests. In addition to writing lectures and writing exercises, Pam offers consultation time and weekly scene reviews. This course is for beginning and intermediate writers who are interested in writing their first draft. Part 1 is required for those students interested in taking Pam's Part 2 & 3 series.

Class Concentration

Please note that each quarter will concentrate on the important scenes in the beginning (Winter), middle (Spring), and end (Summer) of your novel. As each quarter builds on previous learning, you must complete each quarter to be eligible to take the next.

We will be covering a variety of aspects, including:

- How to plot your novel

- Develop your characters

- Understand and choose the appropriate point of view for your story

- Marketing tips and tricks


Class Structure

1) Critique groups will be established as part of the class structure.
2) Students may submit three pages of new work each week for instructor’s feedback.
3) Writing exercises each class.
4) Individual instructor feedback.
