February 12, 2015 The Anti-Hero's Journey for Storytellers

7:00 - 8:30 pm at the King County Library Service Center (960 Newport Way NW, Issaquah, WA 98027)

Many writing teachers tell new writers not to attempt to write stories about anti-heroes or tragic heroes as it’s just too difficult to achieve reader sympathy. But Joseph Campbell’s The Hero’s Journey is for all types of characters, not just the squeaky clean ones who save the day. Anti-heroes and tragic heroes also have journeys and stories that need to be told. In this workshop, Gloria will guide attendees through crafting the twelve stages of The Hero’s Journey, including those “heroes” who refuse to follow the "rules.”

Gloria Kempton is an author, writing coach, and former magazine and book editor. She has been a contributing editor to "Writer's Digest" magazine and an instructor with In the past she has worked as a freelance book editor for a large number of major publishers. Kempton also speaks at and conducts workshops at writers conferences across the country each year, including the National Writer's Association Conference, the Pacific Northwest Writer's Conference, and the Maui Writer's Conference.
