January 8, 2015 Making a Good First Impression

7:00 - 8:30 pm at the King County Library Service Center (960 Newport Way NW, Issaquah, WA 98027)

Whether entering a contest, sending out a proposal to an agent or editor, or publishing your book, as authors we sometimes don’t put our best foot forward. Attendees will learn how to choose their words carefully, the critical first pages, the common mistakes made in query letters and synopses, and how to effectively communicate once you have an agent or editor’s attention.

Kate Collins is the Chief Operations Officer for Solstice Publishing. Beginning as an author, she accepted the position as Editor in Chief for their fantasy/scifi/paranormal line, Solstice Shadows in 2013, and Executive Assistant to CEO, Melissa Miller. She was promoted to Chief Operations Officer in January of 2014 and now, among her numerous duties, oversees the Editorial staff.

When not working, she is an international best-selling fantasy author writing under the name of Kate Marie Collins. She graduated from college in California with a bachelor’s degree in drama, is an avid history buff, and a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism. She resides with her family in what she affectionately calls ‘Seattle Suburbia’.
