What is a pitch?

A pitch is a short 3-5 sentence explanation of your project that sells an agent or an editor on your story. Your pitch should be short, engaging and tell your audience why your project matters.

 

What if I am just a beginning writer, should I go to conference?

Summer Conference is for writers of all levels. Whether you are seeking inspiration or ready to pitch your perfect novel, you will find yourself surrounded by people who all love the same thing. There's something for everyone at conference.

 

What happens at the sessions?

Sessions are lead by industry experts and are crafted to address many different aspects of the publishing industry. From keeping track of your expenses to crafting the perfect pitch, sessions give you a chance to interact with experts and ask questions in a friendly and open environment.

 

When will I receive my agent and editor appointments?

Agent and Editor appointment will be mailed to you a few weeks before the conference.

 

How do I meet with an agent?

You sign up when you register. Make sure you follow the Agent guidelines outlined in your registration packet.  Agent and Editor appointments are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.  Agent appointments are one-to-one and are 10 minutes in length.  Editor appointments are one editor with up to 6 conference attendees and are 30 minutes in length.  The appointments will be held on Friday and Saturday of the conference.

 

What if I need to change my agent appointment?

Changes or additional agent appointments can only be scheduled through the agents and editors desk at the conference.

 

Do I need to stay at the hotel to go to conference?

No. A lot of attendees come into town in the morning for the conference, and others decide to stay at the hotel. Decide what works for you.  If you do decide to stay at the Hilton you can use this link to make a reservation.

 

What should I wear at the conference?

We suggest business casual.
