Topic: Book Trailers – Digital Marketing of Your Book
Speakers: M.J. McDermott, Michael Harris, Nicholas O’Connell
A book trailer is a short video that markets your
book, like a movie trailer. In this new world of digital marketing and
self-publishing, a good book trailer is an essential tool to promote
your book online. In this presentation, M.J. McDermott will talk about
how she works with writers to create a book trailer, including working
on camera; filmmaker Michael Harris will talk about the process of
shooting and editing the trailer; and author Nick O’Connell will talk
about how he has used his book trailer to market his new novel.
M.J. McDermott is an Emmy-Award-winning broadcaster with 20 years
of experience in television as an actor, producer and on-air
meteorologist. She is currently the Meteorologist on Q13 FOX News This
Morning in Seattle, doing four hours of live television every weekday.
M.J. has a degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Maryland and
has coached actors, broadcasters, writers and singers for work on the
stage and in media. She enjoys helping people relax and find their
“true voice,” rather than some artificial “announcer-y” sound.
Eleven-time Emmy Award-winning contributing network producer/video journalist and filmmaker Michael Harris
creates some of the most imaginative television coming out of the
Pacific Northwest. His 25 years of industry experience as a
multi-disciplined "One-Man Band"
for such clients as ABC News, CBS News, VH-1/MTV, Yahoo! Digital Media
Bureau and others make hum uniquely positioned to create compelling,
network-quality presentations with extremely small budgets.
Nicholas O’Connell, M.F.A, Ph.D., is the author of The Storms of Denali, On Sacred Ground: The Spirit of Place in Pacific Northwest Literature, At the Field’s End: Interviews with 22 Pacific Northwest Writers, Contemporary Ecofiction and Beyond Risk: Conversations with Climbers
(Mountaineers, 1993). He contributes to Newsweek, Gourmet, Saveur,
Outside, GO, National Geographic Adventure, Condé Nast Traveler, Food
& Wine, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and many other
places. He is also the publisher/editor of The Writer’s Workshop Review
