Q: Is the contest for unpublished writers only?
A: No. However, the entry itself must be original and not previously published or accepted for publication or production (this includes independent and self-published works).
Q: Where do I submit my work?
A: You may submit your work in one of three ways - mail, office drop off , or online.

Email your submission to: firstname.lastname@example.org with “PNWA 2017 Lit Contest – Category (INSERT THE CATEGORY number and name for your entry). As an example, if you are entering a piece in the Romance/Women’s Fiction category, the subject line would read: PNWA 2017 Lit Contest – Category 3: Romance/Women’s Fiction
In the body of the email, include the following as attachments:
- Scan of completed contest entry form
- Screen shot of proof of payment
- Your contest entry
NOTE: BE SURE YOU REFER TO THE SPECIFIC ONLINE INSTRUCTIONS. YOU WILL NEED TO MAIL IN A SELF-ADDRESSED STAMPED ENVELOP TO RECEIVE YOUR CRITIQUES.
Q: Should the novel be complete before submission?
A: Not necessarily.
Q: Can one person enter more than one work into the same category?
A: No, an author may enter separate works in different categories only.
Q: What is a synopsis?
A: A synopsis is a narrative summary of your entire novel. Click here to download 'writing a synopsis'.
Q: When submitting chapters, can I skip around?
Q: Can an entry from a previous year which has been revised be re-submitted?
A: Entries from previous PNWA contests may be revised
and re-entered (except for finalist entries from previous years which
may NOT be re-entered).
Q: If the 28 page submission places as a finalist, will the entire manuscript be requested?
Q: After 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners are selected from the finalists, are numbers 4 through 8 ranked?
Q: My nonfiction book includes endnotes/footnotes. Can my endnotes/footnotes be single spaced?
A: Yes, as long as the entire submission is a maximum of 28 pages.
Q: Does the category need to be on every page of the submission?
A: All pages of the submission must have the category number, manuscript title, and page numbers located in the upper right-hand corner.
Q: Are entry fees refunded if my entry is disqualified?
A: No, entry fees are non-refundable.
Q: Can I turn in changes to my entry after the deadline?
A: No. Changes may only be made if we contact you because your piece does not meet entry requirements (not double-spaced, more than 28 pages, etc). If you do not send back the changes by the deadline, your piece will be disqualified.
Q: Do I still need to turn in 3 copies now that the contest is paperless?
A: No. Please only attach one copy/document per entry.
